United Orthopedic (UOC) acquired A-Spine Asia for USĀ $20.0MM, merging the company into a UOC subsidiary, with Mr. David Chang serving as A-Spine’s president.
Based in Taiwan, UOC claims the position as the first company in Asia to obtainĀ FDA, CE and CFDA certification for its products, which it sells to >30 countries. The company also claims to hold 20% of the Taiwan spine market. For 2016, UOC recorded revenue of $44.0MM. For the same period, A-Spine reported revenue of $11.3MM.
The acquisition expands UOC’s sales in China, where A-Spine is presently registered. At the end of 2016, UOC established subsidiaries in Europe and Japan, and itsĀ Kaohsiung, Taiwan manufacturing facility will be ready for production in 3Q17. UOC’s U.S. subsidiary was established in early 2014.
UOC markets products for hip andĀ knee replacement, while A-Spine focuses on spinal fixation, osteoplasty and vertebral body replacement systems, selling in Australia/New Zealand, China, Indonesia, Iran, the Philippines, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Trinidad and Vietnam.
A-Spine’s portfolio includes the recently-launched full range of ComboĀ® Ti/PEEK Cages configured forĀ ACDF, PLIF, TLIF andĀ P/TLIF. The company completed clinical study of itsĀ RedmondĀ® ALIF Ti/PEEK Standalone Cages, investigating the role of titanium in improving the bone-implant interface of PEEK substrates;Ā study results were published in the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience during 4Q15. Ongoing studies continue for RedmondĀ ACDF Ti/PEEK Standalone Cages.
